Description
The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) located in Montgomery and Tuskegee, AL is seeking a full time board certified or board eligible Neurologist to join their dynamic healthcare team.

The neurologist will be qualified to diagnose, treat, and manage patients with neurological diseases according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques.

The neurologist will be experienced in performing/interpreting EMG/NCV and EEGs, evoked studies as well as sleep studies.  

Duties also include neurological evaluations; patient examinations; diagnosis; consultations. ACLS / BLS required. The neurologist will be accountable to the Associate Chief of Staff for Acute Care & Specialties Service Line and Chief of Staff.

Work Schedule: Full Time. 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Monday - Friday). The neurologist will participate in On-call as required.  

Salary Range: Up to $215,000 per year

EDUCATION DEBT REDUCTION PROGRAM (EDRP): Applicant selected for this position may be eligible to apply for an award under the provisions of the EDRP program based on availability of funds.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

a. Citizenship: Citizen of the United States.

b. Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Approved schools are: (1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted. (2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. (3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.

c. Licensure and Registration:  Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.

***Completion 3 years of residency training in Neurologist required***.

d. English Language Proficiency: Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required.

All individuals:

(1) Must meet basic qualification standards for appointment. Clinical privileges must be recommended by the chief, staff/professional standards board as granted by the Director of Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System. Incumbent must provide complete credentials and privileging information in a timely expeditious way. Board eligibility or board certification in Orthopedic Surgery from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery is required.

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.) Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
