Be part of an international medical team providing a full range of medical services in a western, US joint venture facility in Pudong, the heart of Shanghai’s financial district.

The facility is Shanghai East International Medical Center. SEIMC opened in 2003 and is located physically within a full service, 1100 bed local Chinese Hospital. The joint venture contains a first floor primary care outpatient/urgent care physician clinic providing family practice, PEDS, OB and internal medicine. In house laboratory is available with more onsite capability than North American office based physicians are accustomed to. In house xray services are supported by local hospital MRI and 125 slice CT.

A full 55 bed inpatient component of the joint venture occupies the 12th floor of the local hospital which was built and equipped to a western standard.

Patients are primarily western expats living in Shanghai, or travelers, most of whom speak English. Chinese able to pay for services frequent the facility if they wish to step outside the Chinese Healthcare System. The staff, including nursing, speaks English.

This position will share responsibility for family/general practice services and work with administration to increase the clinic program. This facility has a growing OB service which includes a western standard birthing unit and labor/delivery services. A 2-OR surgical suite is located on the 12th floor inpatient ward. Specialties without joint venture western physicians are provided by the Chinese Hospital specialty medical staff.

This will be an interesting position for the right candidate. Shanghai is a dynamic and unique city of 18 million unlike any other. It is an extremely safe city where crime other than petty burglary is rare.

This position is salaried at a competitive wage, with a generous monthly incentive program. Holidays, vacation(within a few hours one can be in Beijing, Bangkok, Hanoi, Manila, Taiwan, Rangoon, Singapore, Macau and more), CME, and health insurance are provided. Professional liability coverage is provided while working within the joint venture. Initial transportation to Shanghai, and 1 annual roundtrip “home” is provided. Housing is the responsibility of the physician after an initial arrival period covered by the employer.
