Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is an independent health care provider who, working in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, is responsible for providing mental health treatment to adult clients of Health Care for the Homeless. This role’s primary duties are assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental illness in homeless individuals in Baltimore.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Effectively provide psychiatric care including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and referral as required for adult clients
Accurately monitor clients’ compliance with and reaction to psychotropic medications
Effectively provide on-site and telephone consultation with care team staff
Regularly review and update medications in the electronic medical record
Effectively provide general guidance with regard to overall mental health care delivery
Models and reinforces the Health Care for the Homeless “core values” of dignity, authenticity, hope, justice, passion and balance
Actively participates in performance improvement activities and actively participates in advocacy activities that support the mission of HCH
Performs other duties on an as-needed basis
Protects our client’s personal health information by maintaining compliance with HIPAA and other relevant Health Care related IT security regulations


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Master’s degree in nursing
Graduate experience with an accredited psychiatric nurse practitioner program
Current licensure and certification to practice as a nurse practitioner in the state of Maryland
Possesses CDS and DEA licenses with buprenorphine waiver
BLS CPR certification

Experience

2 years of direct psychiatric clinical care experience, preferably working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary clinical setting
Direct client care experience with populations similar to clients of Health Care for the Homeless; experience in a community or public health setting working with the underserved is preferred
Comfortable working with homeless and/or low-income individuals and families
Skills

Excellent interpersonal skills to interact and maintain relationships with a wide range of personalities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Bi-lingual (Spanish and English speaking) preferred
Demonstrated proficiency with EMRs
Able to cope with interruptions, be flexible, and be a team player
Flexible approach, working with several cross-disciplinary teams in a collaborative style
Culturally sensitive working with staff and clients from diverse backgrounds
Able to work with ill, disabled, emotionally upset and sometimes hostile individuals
