TITLE: Dental Director REPORTS TO: Chief Medical Officer WORK WEEK: Anticipate 40 hours per week, or as needed to accomplish task WAGE CLASSIFICATION: Exempt OSHA Classification: HighSUMMARY POSITION STATEMENT The Dental Director is responsible for administering, maintaining and expanding the community health center dental program; provides leadership within the clinic, and advice and counsel to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors. This position is an overlay position to a core dentist provider position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION • Demonstrates leadership within the dental team. • Provides consultation to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors regarding dental and oral health issues. • Actively participates in setting performance and outcome measures and clinical objectives. • Serves as Chair of the dental program’s Quality Improvement committee and Peer Review Committee. • Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of community health center staff as requested. • Participates in community organization activities to provide education, health promotion and disease prevention. • Reviews credentials and references and evaluates standards for dental provider staff to ensure that their qualifications are maintained. • Performs periodic dental staff evaluations and assessments as directed by our policy. • Supervises, advises, counsels and disciplines all dental department professional providers in conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer and/or Human Resources department. Approves leave status for dental department professional provider staff. • Designs, develops, and implements appropriate dental department policies, protocols and procedures which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards. • Expected to complete required training such as CPR, Mandt, Mental Health First Aid and any others deemed necessary for this position. Other duties as required. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Education: Graduate from an accredited dental school License: Possession of a current State of Alaska Dental License Experience: Two years post-graduate experience in a dental clinic preferred. Private practice and/or management experience preferred. Ability to work with young children preferred.
