Austin Heart has the only full-time cardiology practice in San Marcos. The office is located across the street from the hospital. The primary goal for the new cardiologist is to be part of the community, work with the other Austin Heart cardiologists as a team, and support the community (total population 150,000) in Hays and Caldwell Counties.

Hospital Practice
The cardiologist will see patients primarily at Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC). This 113 bed hospital has a broad spectrum of services.. Austin Heart and CTMC have a plan in place to have the coronary interventional program including 24/7 Stemi coverage in place 60 days prior to the start date of our new interventional cardiologist. Thus, when the new physician begins, the interventional and Stemi program will be operational. The new cardiologist would work with the medical staff to continue to refine the program. We anticipate 75 to 150 coronary cases and 50-100 peripheral cases in the first year. Heart surgery cases will continue to be transferred to the Heart Hospital of Austin.

Call Requirements
The physician will be on call approximately every third day for Central Texas Medical Center. General call will be shared with the other San Marcos cardiologists and interventional call will be shared with other Austin Heart interventional cardiologists from outside of the market. In general, call is low intensity with an average census of 5-10 patients.
